Who Am Eye Mens Clothing
A boutique streetwear label by Johnny Leong and Glenn Cameron
Another exclusive interview with Australian Fashion Review – Johnny and Glen take a time-out to catch up with us for a few words about their who am eye label.
Please introduce yourself Johnny and Glenn and tell us about your backgrounds.
Johnny: Born and raised in Melbourne, studied Graphic Arts/Design but dropped out as I realised my passion was in clothing design – it was always my dream to own and create my own business in the fashion industry and now I do.
Glenn: Glenn: Also born and raised in Melbourne, no formal training. i always planned on starting a business – after meeting Johnny we decided to give it a go!
How did the Who Am Eye label begin?
The label began back in late 2005 as an idea to create menswear that we wanted to wear ourselves. it took us a few seasons of trial and error to figure out exactly what we wanted to do and what we wanted the Who Am Eye brand to be, Now after almost 5 years in the industry we are comfortable with our work and proud that we are still 100% Australian made, which has always been a big part of what Who Am Eye is about.
What can we expect from Who Am Eye in the coming collections?
We are looking to add Accessories and Footwear to our Collections, and hopefully more retail spaces.
What do you hope to accomplish with your fashion label? What is the dream!?
To be globally recognised in terms design, quality and style but yet still on that boutique level, keeping it personal and progressive.
Who are your favourite fashion designers and what about them inspires you? What else inspires you?
Johnny: I’m really intrigued with lots of the European designers right now, such as Carol Christian Poell, M.A +, Guidi, Maurizio Altieri – these guys are always pushing the envelope in terms of technique and style, and always inspired by early Martin Margiela, Rei Kawakubo and Rick Owens can do no wrong.
Glenn: I also agree with Johnny, Europe seems to produce great designers – Damir Doma is a personal favourite, Just awesome!
If you could pick someone famous that best represents your labels style, who would it be? Alternatively, what famous person/s would you want wearing your label?
Johnny: Can’t think of anyone famous – I want everyone to own a piece of Who Am Eye.
