Mario-Luca Carlucci and Peter Strateas don’t see themselves as fashion designers but instead “as overall artists” who simply combine their art form in the means of the Trimapee fashion label. “Fashion to us is another art form and expressing the way we should feel. Like an artist paints a picture, our body is our canvas and the clothes are our paintings.” The Autumn/Winter 2010 clothing collection is titled ‘Ritual Redemption’ and is inspired by the Japanese sacrament Seppuku. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the Japanese language, Seppuku is the traditional ritual on cutting ones stomach in the ceremony of traditional suicide. This was done by warriors to avoid dying in their enemies arms, instead taking their own lives to die honourably. Your initial thoughts are probably similar our first impressions – a screwed face with the words ‘what the’… followed by a scratching of the head with the question –fashion inspired by Japanese suicide rituals…? “The Japanese used to do this [Seppuku ritual] and die an honourable death as opposed to dying in their enemies arms. This is evident in the pieces being rigid and armouresque” explains Carlucci. Regardless of what floats your boat, this collection is visually interesting….We also suggest you check out Injury, Fernando Frisoni and Claude Maus for similar styling.
