Boutique Sydney Fashion – Menswear and WomenswearCollection: Autumn/Winter 2011 – ‘Les Enfants De Marx Et De Coca-Cola’Words from St Augustine Academy The theme behind the collection explores the culture that culminated in the student riots in Paris, 1968; from the Cahiers du Cinema and the French new wave, the Vietnam war, and music from the likes of serge Gainsbourgh, Jacques Dutronc and the Yeye girls. The title is a reference to Jean-Luc Godards’s film “Masculin Feminin”, which captures the duelling influences in the time of intellectualism and left-wing sentiments versus the frivolity of capitalism and pop culture from the US.
Mens Autumn/Winter 2011Taking it’s cue from collegiate wear, the men’s offering include colour blocked knitwear, mohair skivvies and tweed college jackets. A new silhouette is provided by the Rohmer trouser, a triple pleat baggy trouser with a narrow hem, an ode to the French Nouvelle Vague directors, of which most pieces in the collection are named for.
Womens Autumn/Winter 2011In an exciting turn for the label, the source inspiration necessitated the use of print. Enter Chiffon Paisley. The stlying of the womenswear looks to the Ye-Ye girls of the time, young French women who often covered American Rock n Roll songs. Women like Francois Hardy, Chantal Goya, Ana Karina and Jane Birkin inspires the collection.
