Words by Serpent & the Swan: A Bambi in a bottle, a bunny adorned with antlers on a wall where a clock should be, and a small, low desk littered with partly formed resin animals, glue and wire lit by a dim lamp is where the Serpent & the Swan Autumn Winter ’11 collection was conceived. True to its nature and nature itself, this season’s collection, the label’s third, is inspired by the skeleton structure and anatomy of animals as well as the flight paths of creatures that fly at night. Moths, horse skulls, gazelle horns, wolves, rams and stallions are interwoven into the collection via leather paneling and the label’s signature handcrafted buttons, toggles, brooches, zip pulls and rings. For the first time, tailored pieces including angular paneled wool and leather or velvet jackets for both men and women, and trousers and waistcoats for women are included in the collection. Heavily textured, heavy gauge basket weave knitwear is again included in the collection. Crochet gazelle horns on a v‐neck cropped knit for women and a crew neck for men are a feature. Cotton and modal tees and singlets featuring mesh and chiffon panels and suede piping in clean, structured, angular and fluid silhouettes complete the collection. Black and stone continue to dominate, creating a solid base palette for the collection. This season’s highlight colours are dirty khaki, shroom, steel and antique gold.
