September Issue Documentary – Vogue Magazine – Editor & Chief Anna Wintour

The September Issue - Movie/Documentary - Anna Wintour

The September Issue is a documentary following the Vogue Editor and Chief -Anna Wintour on her routine business days for fashion empire powerhouse Vogue. The documentary specifically follows the build up to the bumper ‘September Issue’ of Vogue, the issue that is widely known as the largest, longest and most popular every year.

The September Issue delivered far beyond my initial expectations. The words ‘documentary’ and phrase ‘follow the life of’ generally don’t appeal to my movie senses. However, this movie proved far more insightful and entertaining that i thought it could.  Its easy to now see why this movie / documentary has featured in so many prestigious film festivals throughout the globe. From Sundance to Edinburgh to Brisbane, the September Issue has been praised at all corners of the globe.

Despite being only a ‘documentary’, the September Issue has substance and multiple layers. The point-of-view movie insights into the $300 billion dollar fashion industry is fascinating. The characterof Anna Wintour is so intriguing – she seems to gives away nothing in her persona, but in doing so, gives away everything. The relationship between Anna Wintour and Grace Coddington (i’ll call her the silent star of this movie) is definately compelling – they have a relatively twisted relationship of mutual underlying hatred yet unbelievable respect of one another – you’ll know what i mean when you see it.

In a way, The September Issue manages to draw you into the fantasy land of superficial fashion and for 1.5 hours, the whole fashion industry seems rather honest and legitimate. I think one of my favourite aspects of The September Issue is the fact that if you look at the world from their (Anna & Co)  perspective, the world somehow revolves around fashion. Its like a make-believe fashion empire somehow intertwining with reality. Just a thought..

Anyhow, whatever my beliefs about the movie, The September Issue is worth more than a mention – i highly rate it and would recommend it to anyone reading this post – whether male or female, fashionista or not. Check it out at your theatre when its released!

I saw The September Issue at this years Brisbane International Film Festival (BIFF) – it was exactly as described. Its definately worth watching when it comes out on general release. Anna Wintour and Grace dominate the screen in a great way. the US vogue magazine is in good hands while Anna is still around.
