Rittenhouse clothing is a high end yet casual fashion label by Australian fashion designers Sally McDonald and graphic designer partner Micah Hamdorf. Although Rittenhouse fashion is based out of Sydney, the label is named after Philadelphia Rittenhouse Square (United States), a tribute to the park which was near Sally and Micah’s house when they resided in the US.

According to the talented pair, Rittenhouse clothing is about love, reflective of a true family business.  The work-life separation that most people have is non-existent for Sally and Micah, who spend almost every minute of everyday together, either working on the latest Rittenhouse fashion collection, or entertaining their two children.

Rittenhouse fashion is not what we would consider a boutique fashion label with a limited range. Rittenhouse has a diverse collection including mens clothing, womens clothing, swimwear, a children’s line (as well as baby) and even fashion accessories such as scarfs and shoes. Despite the variety of the Rittenhouse fashion label, there is an underlying theme reflecting traditional sophistication. Rittenhouse clothes are classic yet unique as they incorporate high grade fabrics and materials, in distinct patterns and prints with quiet detailing. It is these finer details that has made Rittenhouse a respected quality label, popular amongst fellow designers and fashionistas alike.

The Rittenhouse saga began in 1997 where Sally and Micah met via mutal friends in Melbourne. After falling in love, the pair went separate ways to London and New York, before reuniting in Philadelphia. The Rittenhouse duo returned to Sydney where operations are now based out of.

Some of the notable achievements of Rittenhouse (despite the obvious popularity of the label) is the successful collaboration with Scottish trenchcoat label Mackintosh. The result was a hybrid Rittenhouse styled Mackintosh traditional trench coat with a detachable hand printed wool flannel lining in the Rittenhouse signature checks.

More recently, Rittenhouse has collaborated with Swiss husband/wife duo Michael Husmann and Pasquale Mira Tschaeni, known for their illustration, paintings and installations rather than fashion. The combination of both pairs creates a unique Rittenhouse collection that is dynamic in colours, texture and design. Without a doubt, the Rittenhouse x Husmann/Tschaeni collaboration has added a new dynamic to the Rittenhouse fashion brand.
