With over 200 stockists throughout Australia, Suzie Rose Vella has established herself as a leading Australian fashion designer. Her two labels – Pizzuto and Pink Sparrow both focus on the womenswear market. Check out our exclusive interview with Suzie below.

How did you get into fashion design? Where did it all begin for Pizzuto and what does the word ‘Pizzuto’ mean?

Suzie Rose Vella began her fashion journey at the ripe age of seventeen after finishing her HSC she completed a certificate in fashion and a certificate in whole garment assembly in the western Sydney institute and then went on to completing her Advanced Diploma in Fashion Design at East Sydney Design Studio in 2004.

Pizzuto is Suzie Rose Vella’s maiden name a sentimental gesture to her parents that worked so hard to provide and inspire her drive to succeed.

What can we expect from the Pizzuto label in the coming collections?

Pizzuto is in a major restructure due to the financial crisis and the nagging love of evening wear Suzie Rose aspires to envision for Pizzuto

Pizzuto recently release a new mainstream label called Pink Sparrow, this will take the ease off the expectations off Pizzuto and allow it to explore and be creative.

What do you hope to accomplish with your fashion label? What is the dream!?

I am already seeing Pink Sparrow flourish into the mainstream market so I am content with continuing the focus of mass market for the next 2 years for Pink Sparrow but as for Pizzuto

I want to see Pizzuto as a complete eveningwear exclusive designer label! Right up there with Roberto Cavali and Channel ‘reach for the stars from Down Under’.

Pizzuto has already shown on numerous catwalks including New York which where goals I achieved and will maintain but I now feel, that it is for me a personal and emotional fulfilment I need to accomplish as a designer to create a evening wear collection that is complete feminine divinity.

My future aspiration is to write a book to help young entrepreneurs using my experiences in business.

Who are your favourite fashion designers and what about them inspires you? What else inspires you?

I admire the print and texture combinations of Roberto Cavali’s collection’s but I am mostly inspired by the people in my life and my surroundings especially my parents passion towards life, I also love reading small business help books, they inspire me as a director as people tend to forget you are only 20% designer 80% director.

If you could pick someone famous that best represents your labels style, who would it be? Alternatively, what famous person/s would you want wearing your label?

For the Pink Sparrow label- Miley Cyrus, and for Pizzuto – Angelina Jolie.
