Introduction to the Natasha Gan Fashion Label
Australian designer Natasha Gan was born into a world of fashion – from a very young age Natasha spent her weekends delving through the fabrics and trims conjuring up her own pretty creations amongst her mother’s work as a dress maker. At the tender age of 13 Natasha was enrolled on a weekend patternmaking course at her local TAFE, starting her journey to becoming one of Australia’s most well-respected fashion labels.
Aged 16, Natasha was selected to study Fashion and Design at East Sydney Technical College, where her technical skills and knowledge of the fashion industry as a whole, were refined. With increased confidence in her skills gained through formal study, Natasha moved to London at 21 in the search of further experience in one of the world’s fashion capitals. Working for several small boutique fashion labels eventually led to designing positions for two UK high street giants H&M and Topshop.
In 2003, she put her education, experience and design skills to the ultimate test, with the launch of namesake womenswear fashion label ‘Natasha Gan’. The brand soon gained a reputation for their strong, yet sexy collections, gradually expanding to become one of Australia’s finest womenswear labels.
As of 2011/2012, the Natasha Gan label produces six collections a year that are stocked in over 80 of Australia’s finest boutiques including, New South Wales’s Bluebird and Blossom, Code Orange and Urban Oasis; Victoria’s Crimson & Clover and Luella; Queensland’s Hunt and Gather, Petrol and traffic; and Southern Australia’s Mylk Bottle, Shine on Sea and Mushroom Boutique. The brand’s collections are also stocked through David Jones department stores across the country. A full list of stockists can be found on the official Natasha Gan website.
Aesthetic of the Natasha Gan Fashion Label
The Natasha Gan fashion label produces six collections a year and each collection focuses on a progressive, strong and sexy aesthetic. Each garment is beautifully constructed, with an attention to detail and quality finish. Natasha’s muted colour palette with occasional colour pops is sophisticated and feminine, and hand detailing mixed with simple and chic designs make for prefect trans-seasonal pieces. In strong support of the Australia fashion industry, each Natasha Gan garment is produced on home soil – from design and pattern-making, to embroidering and finishing.
