Following her graduation from Sydney’s University of Technology, Australian designer Claire Greaves went on to work for international high street giant, Topshop in London. Her time there was not only influential but gave he the skills she needed to strike out on her own when she returned to Australia. She launched her womenswear label Maise in early 2006, the title of the brand stemming from one of her childhood nicknames.
With collections built around design-oriented denim, the aesthetic is effortless and unpretentious, making the pieces versatile and super wearable. The brand’s signature look is all about contrasts – masculine and feminine, tailored and street, dark and sweet. It was this fresh and contemporary aesthetic that soon saw the label’s collections becoming a regular feature in glossy fashion publications including, Australian Vogue, Madison, US Nylon, InStyle, Sportswear Int. Cookie, Glamcult Paris, Marie Claire, The Cool Hunter, Russh, Frankie and The Melbourne Magazine.
It was clear to see that Maise was a fashion label to watch, expanding their denim line with a stylish, chic and wearable fashion line, but in the July of 2010, it appeared that the boutique Australia brand had ceased trading. But the good news is that founder Claire Greeves went on to work for the iconic Australian womenswear label Sass and Bide as a Denim and Knitwear Designer – here at Australian Fashion Review Blog, we wish Claire the very best of luck with all of her future endeavours.
