Konstantina Mittas Women’s FashionSydney Womens Clothing Designer
There are essentially two broad groups of fashion designers – one group has formal training (usually in the form of a textile/design/fashion degree or something similar) – the other group has no formal training. Konstantina Mittas is a part of the second group, although you certainly would not think this after looking at her intricate garment creations. Vogue Australia, Harpers Bazaar, Oyster and Russh are amongst the fashion bible staples that have acclaimed and featured Konstantina Mittas clothing. She has been described as ‘one to watch’ and its easy to see why.
Konstantina Mittas clothing is sharp, edgy and artistic. The garments often exemplify the body’s contour, particularly through the shoulders and hips. The overall result is a modern feminine appeal that sells a story of success, confidence and style. Konstantina notes that her first ever clothing order came after a rejected job interview where she wore a self-created garment. “I didn’t get the job but I went out that night and everyone wanted what I was wearing, so I just started taking people’s money. How funny is that? I was actually in the toilets at The Establishment – that’s where I got my first clothing order” (Map Magazine interview 2009). The rest as they say, is history. Konstantina Mittas officially launched her namesake label in 2005, where she was nominated in America for the Los Angeles Fashion Week Gen Art Show. Since then, four distinct fashion collections have been developed and her namesake brand has found momentum. Konstantina Mittas notes her greatest career achievement as creating beautiful fashion shows and look books (we second that), yet the most challenging feature being the constant financial pressure. Australian Fashion Review is certain Konstantina Mittas is taking strides in the right direction, not only as a designer, but as a brand. If the last four years is anything to go by, momentum and industry support is certainly on her side.
