Creators from all over the world flock to the bright lights in the hope of making it big. For Kelly Love, an Australian fashion designer with a label in her own name, she is one of those very designers. Kelly Love was launched at Australian Fashion Week 2008 New Generation Show with Beautiful Side of Everything – A whimsical collection of light and feminine styles, including feather weight dresses, velvety soft camisoles and French knickers. This collection was later stocked in high end boutiques throughout Australia. This winter Kelly will endeavor to brighten up the dreary London mornings with AW2010 Origami Dolls. Sumptuous velvet, tailored wool trimmed with French Lace, buttery soft silks and hand drawn prints encapsulate this collection. The inspiration comes from a romantic mind and fragments of memories from living in Japan. Dolls, circles painted perfectly on already rosy cheeks, impossibly long eyelashes, origami, paper planes, whimsical geisha girls, hand painted silk, the sound of butterfly wings, foreign films shot in impending darkness, drinking tea under the cherry blossoms. Kelly’s time in Osaka working with a Japanese Fashion Designer led to the idea of owning her own label. Going on to study at KVB Design school and working as an intern at Akira Isogawa and Fleur Wood, Kelly then worked for a couture label where she honed her skills in exceptional tailoring and luxurious fabrics. Both which are apparent in her own collections. Ideas for each collection form and come together in the old fashioned way. A million ideas are sketched onto thick textured paper, patterns are cut, fabric is draped, toiles are fitted on the human form, and garments are finished with meticulous hand stitching. The scene has now been set. Studded clogs and spiked leather accessories adorn and compliment the delicate outfits. The lookbook has been shot, appointments are made and the real drama begins. The rain falls outside on a dreary London morning brightened by the hope of a beautiful season……AW2010 Origami Dolls by Kelly Love
