Set in Denmark in the 70’s the story is of a young naive bullied boy who steps over into the dark side to save himself. Two sets of images create the mash up of extremes that is the framework Kate Sylvester thrives on. On the one side there is innocence, represented by childhood sports uniforms and Rubik’s cubes confronted by the aggressive sexuality of Loulou and her comrades in arms; Jane Birken and Charlotte Rampling. Lost and Found is a journey exploring how we lose our innocence to find our power. Kate’s favourite pieces in this collection include; the Jerry T-shirt and Jordan singlet, basketball shapes subverted into sexy dress ups in silk georgette and sequins. The Claire dress in an exploding Rubik’s cube print makes up into a very sophisticated dress, ironically featuring athletic rib inserts. The Hannah dress in powder blue or caramel lace epitomises the effortless sexiness of Jane Birken in the 70’s. The Jan jumper with rugby stripes in fluffy angora wool teamed up with sequined sports shorts in deepest midnight ink. Lost and Found contains all the unmistakable Kate Sylvester touches; it’s ironic, subversive, mashed up and nonchalantly beautiful.
Kate Sylvester held her Lost & Found capsule collection show in the window of her Sydney store this month to launch Autumn Winter. Five models previewed looks from the collection during the performance as they slowly evolved from ‘Lost’ to ‘Found’ girls before an audience of press, media and VIP customers.
