Casual Women’s Clothing from MelbourneBy Australian designers Sarah Walker and Lucy Sherman
The JuicyBear girls recently caught up with Australian Fashion Review Blog for a few quick words on their boutique clothing label. Please introduce the JuicyBear fashion label and tell us a little about yourselves. Sarah Walker and Lucy Sherman are the creators of JuicyBear. Lucy Sherman began her post-school life studying advertising and marketing at RMIT. After fleeing the country for nearly three years travelling (ski instructing and generally having fun!) Lucy came back to pursue her career in advertising with agencies such as George Patterson, Fusion, The Marketing Store, Whybin TBWA and Working Girls. After studying Marketing at University, Sarah Walker had a short stint in Casting (and a long stint overseas) before moving into fashion. With both retail and wholesale experience behind her Sarah joined Lucy to create the perfect tee. How did it all start for your JuicyBear? When and where was the label founded? After tirelessly looking for the perfect tee, the girls decided that if they could not find one, that they would create one themselves. The result was a versatile, indispensable tee – one that does not hug, shrink or ride up; made using 100% pure Egyptian cotton that is cut much longer in the body; a tee that you can layer, mix and match and own a whole collection. Attracted by the longer cuts and gorgeous colours, women quickly fell in love with Juicy Bear’s superfine Egyptian cotton tees. Then they wanted more. So the same principles were applied to superfine wool. And the range grew from there. Now JuicyBear produces cotton, wool and silk giving you a luxury option to layer or wear one as a feature piece. JuicyBear is proudly Melbourne made.
What are the future plans for the brand? The girls at JuicyBear are looking forward, choosing to continue research and development into innovative fabrics, to provide the market with unique, easy care and wear garments, while at the same time expanding their wholesale market and establishing the label as an online retailer. Name some inspirations and fellow designers you draw inspiration from. JuicyBear looks to labels such as Isabel Marant, Stella McCartney and Vanessa Bruno for inspiration on creating effortlessly stylish day to day wear. Having said that, inspiration behind each JuicyBear garment can come from almost anywhere or anything, even Sarah’s grandmothers closet! Name the ideal celebrity that reflects JuicyBear’s style, or if celebrities have already worn the label – who are they? Kate Moss is the ideal celebrity to reflect the casual but thought out multi-layer style of JuicyBear’s garments. Her way of just throwing together basic clothing to form a story is something the JuicyBear draws upon for inspiration. Where is the label stocked? JuicyBear is stocked in various designer boutiques around Australia and in New Zealand.
