Model, actress, television personality and now designer, Annalise Braakensiek is one of Australia’s most popular and multi-faceted celebrities. We chatted with the Sydney based designer to find out more about her signature jewellery collection and the inspiration behind her latest work…
You’ve accomplished so much already, what led you to start your own jewellery label?
It’s something I’ve always dreamt of. I’ve been obsessed with jewellery, art and design for as long as I can remember. I studied jewellery design at UNSW COFA.
Describe your collection in three words.
Others have described it as: Statement-Boho-Lux Hippy-Lux/Statement Gypsy-Bold-Stylish Statement-Boho-Chic Stylish Boho Unique….. I can’t decide which I like best!
What are your favourite materials and jewels to work with?
Silver and natural antique turquoise is definitely my favourite combination. I’m not a yellow gold and diamonds kind of gal.
What are some of the key pieces in your current collection?
Papa Bear long ring, Navajo Baby cuff and ring, my wide Hottie leather wrist band and my Gypsy ring is straight up statement piece.
Where do you find inspiration for your designs?
I find inspiration from so many things, from a flower, a vintage dress with an incredible pattern, to architecture… I often design for someone in mind. I’m deeply inspired by Native American and Scandinavian jewellery design, and love is always the main inspiration in all that I create. Whether it be cooking, lingerie, sleepwear or jewellery design. You’ll find love hearts sprinkled through my collections, always.
What do you love most about designing?
That I’m being true to my heart.
What is your ultimate design dream? Where do you hope to take your label?
For my jewellery to be loved and worn by women around the globe. And hello, Kate Moss donning one of my pieces would be insane!
Is there anyone who has inspired you/your work in some way?
Yes, my darling late father. I promised him I would create my signature jewellery collection one day. My Papa Bear collection is a dedication to him.
Where can people purchase your jewellery?
My collection is available online at www.annalise.com.au and is soon to be stocked in selected boutiques nationally.
What’s next for Annalise Braakensiek?
I’m working on a fantastic new mainstream design project that will be in stores nationwide by the end of the year… I’m SOOOO excited about it. I can’t tell you details for another month, but will let you know as soon as I can!
