The man behind the Injury label is Sydney-based fashion designer Eugene Leung. Eugene kindly agreed to catch up with Australian Fashion Review for a few words on the dark and mysterious Injury clothing label.
Please introduce yourself Eugene and tell us about your background?
I graduated in Bachelor of Architecture in University of New South Wales, started as a graffiti artist for hobby using the name INJURY in 2002. [I am] self taught in fashion design and tailoring.
How did The Injury label begin?
Injury begins when the vampire like headshot picture of a friend was turned into graffiti art in 2002 and we called it INJURY,
I decided to make it a fashion related label in order to turn things into a 3 dimensional art form.
Then in 2005 we joined Melbourne fashion. That’s where the label INJURY officially became a full collection with DVD short films as showing tools
What can we expect from Injury in the coming collections?
Darker & lighter, brutal but peaceful pieces.
What do you hope to accomplish with your fashion label? What is the dream!?
Be able to collaborate with different fields. Be able to use Design or fashion label as a tool to educate the new generation, and help save the poor – Rather than just making expensive clothes for expensive people..
Who are your favourite fashion designers and what about them inspires you? What else inspires you?
It changes every season, but right now I’m very impressed by RAD Hourani ‘s collection, its modern approach and minimal touch with a twist always.
Usually what inspires me is not anything from the fashion world – what usually inspires me are characters in movies, musicians, and strangers I meet.
If you could pick someone famous that best represents your labels style, who would it be? Alternatively, what famous person/s would you want wearing your label?
Placebo when they are in the Black Market Music session specifically.
Jesus and Mary chain when they are in the twenties.
Complete the following sentence: Injury clothing is unique because

Words from the official Injury online website
INJURY is the fashion soundtrack to an enigmatic movie.
The label was founded by Eugene Leung in Sydney 2004.
He was into all things dark, gothic and nightmarish, thus the name INJURY.
Eugene comes from a background in architecture and street graffiti art, as you can see from the graphic and sculptural elements of his collections.
He made movie sound track and horror movie clips as fashion shows and bizarre-looking soft toys as souvenir to his runways.
Always inspired by movies, grotesque themes and surreal imagery,
INJURY is moody and atmospheric but yet meticulously crafted Ready-to-wear unisex,
Their clothes are designed to reflect characters and icons they have chosen to depict every season.
They started joining Australian Fashion Week since Autumn/Winter 2005 and are showing regularly at RAFW runways in Sydney, Australia.
Since last year (2009), INJURY has taken a more modernist Bauhaus-inspired approach and is now distributing to shops in Australia, New Zealand, USA and Asia.
