Herringbone Fashion

Australian boutique retailer Herringbone has been purchased by ‘van Laack’, a German company with a rich history within the fashion industry. Herringbone, an Australian fashion label specialising in shirts, suits and related products was placed into voluntary administration in December 2008, after slumped sales within the slowing global economy.

Herringbone director and co-founder John Mutton said the sale to van Laack would greatly benefit Herringbone to continue operations within Australia and potentially abroad , “It will also enable this iconic Australian label to become an international player in the fashion industry with an intended strategy for future expansion overseas”.

van Laack was established in 1881 by Heinrich van Laack, with a vision to create the most exclusive shirts. Well over a century on and van Laack has truly established and maintained itself as a global leader in the shirt industry selling in 14 countries including Germany, UK, France, Singapore, Syria and Australia. See the image below for a sample of van Laack shirts.

Herringbone was established in 1996-97 and established a strong following amongst finance professionals.

  1. mens fashion still evolving says:

there is definately a comment to be made about the maturity of the mens fashion industry in australia. over the past 12 months, the corporate style from australian mens labels such as morrissey and herringbone have obviously struggled. I think there is still a stigma attached to men and the way they shoud and will continue to dress. ultimately, if someone is to pay up to $250 for a single shirt, they must be not only cashed up, but massively conscious of their image – something that is not traditionally something you would associated with australian men. Australian fashion has a long way to travel before it is recognised on the same par as womens fashion. just a thought….
