“My aim is to experience beauty, in everything, with everyone…There’s a magic in my frames.” – Graz Mulcahy.
Bondi Beach native Graeme (Graz to friends) Mulcahy dropped out of school at the young age of 15, but that didn’t mean his path was set. Instead Graeme has sky rocketed himself to the very pinnacle of the Australian fashion industry, with an impressive CV that includes heading up some of the countries most renowned eyewear labels – he launched AM Eyewear at the age of just 19, going on to become the Head Eyewear Designer at Ksubi at age 23 – pretty impressive for a school drop out!
It wasn’t long before Graeme felt the time was right to go it alone, launching his own eyewear label, Graz, in 2009 as a small, independent brand that foregoes over-the-top logo’s and fly by fad trends. Each of the brand’s limited edition collections presents a blend of old world craftsmanship and present day bohemia and features around 23 pairs of sunglasses and 20 pairs of optical frames. Each pair is painstakingly hand crafted and are said to be a reflection of Graeme’s personality.
The edgy, yet classic designs from Graz has resulted n a loyal international following, yet the brand decides to stay exclusive with only around ten stores worldwide and a handful of online retailers, stocking the brand throughout the world, often making the limited edition frames difficult to get hold of. However, Graz is one of the great collaborators, having creating capsule collections in conjunction with the likes of Ellery, Chronicles of Never, Kym Ellery, Monster Children, Paul Smith and Jeremy Scott.
Not content with being just one of Australia’s most respected eyewear designers, Graeme has revealed a great musical talent, recently becoming the the musical director for Dubai Fashion Week, Hong King Luxury Week and Australian Fashion Week – he is clearly a man of many talents, with a lot more to come. So what is next for Graz: “I’m intrigued by how a pair of glasses can change the wearer’s world…It’s my dream to keep producing new visions that will be loved for generations.”
