George Wu is a relative newcomer to the Australian fashion industry, but that hasn’t stopped him from taking it by storm with his namesake womenswear label. The Brisbane based designer launched his bespoke label in 2005 and like many of now successful Australian fashion juggernauts, got his big break into the industry thanks to the support of the Mercedes Benz Start Up Program. This support allowed him to show his unique designs at the Mercedes Benz Fashion Festival in both 2006 and 2007.
It wasn’t long before the fashion press started to take notice of the young designer and his wares were soon being featured in the likes of Vogue Australia, InStyle, Grazia, Famous and Nylon amongst others. With the adoration of the fashion press comes the patronage of the fashionistas – the George Wu profile has been boosted greatly by the likes of Cat Deeley, Angelina Jolie, Ashleigh Cook, Kate Miller Heidke and Margot Robie being spotted in his designs.
Since the inception of his namesake label, George Wu has well and truly established himself within the Australian fashion label, showing his seasonal collections at not only the Mercedes Benz Fashion Festival, but also at L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival, G’Day USA in New York and of course, Rosemount Sydney Australian Fashion Week.
Being stocked around the globe in only the finest boutiques, George Wu has been a little quiet in the past few seasons, focusing on his bespoke projects for clients, which has included creating a dress worn by a guest to the wedding of the century between Kate Middleton and Prince William. But for 2012-2013 is seems that the young designer is back, with his luxury bridal collection entitled, ‘White’. The couture collection is made by a small, highly skilled group of artisans using only the finest silks, laces and trims from throughout the world, including suppliers in Paris, Leon, Osaka, Hong Kong, Tokyo and New York.
The George Wu Aesthetic and Philosophy

George has a sterling reputation for attention-to-detail, remaining personally involved in every step of the creative process, including design, pattern cutting, sewing, finishing and fitting, to determine that every garment is a work of art meeting his high standards.
