Press Release The stark setting of a biosynthesis laboratory provides the founding inspiration for George Wu’s Spring Summer 2010/11 collection, ‘Antidote Intoxication’. A futuristic and conceptual collection which reflects the modern ideology of synthetic production of human emotions, ‘Antidote Intoxication’ pivots around the concept of the laboratory coat, exploring ways in which to manipulate its’ lapel into the various elements of design in order to create new structural form and drape throughout each garment. Referencing the lapel continuously throughout each piece, the collection features a rather androgynous look combining masculine and feminine silhouettes all in one, with the collar and a harness featuring throughout. Using Wu’s signature monochromatic palette of black and white with splashes of lily pink and pecan, the collection starkly represents the sterile mood of a laboratory setting with chemical spills within, ‘Antidote Intoxication’ gives detail in the varying textures and prints used throughout the collection. Driven by the ambition to challenge his abilities in fine cutting and design when creating the collection, Wu’s prêt-a-Porter collection showcases the designer’s remarkable creative ability similarly showcased in George Wu Bespoke, with design manipulation, intricate detailing and master craftsmanship used against classic silhouettes. Upholding his renown for his exquisite cut, meticulous attention to detail and unique design, as well as his continued use of luxurious yet wearable textiles, George Wu has used a combination of silks and natural fibres blended with synthetics to give structure to the garments and enabling crease resistance and breathability. After the success of his debut accessories range last year, George Wu has created a similarly fashion-forward selection of hand-made accessories to compliment the collection, allowing for additional extravagant detailing to be added to each look.
