The Spring/Summer 2011-2012 collection, entitled ‘Stem the Flow’, is a return to Gail Sorronda’s best, with an offering full of her signature dark romanticism and monochromatic palette. Gail says: “I have always designed with a monochromatic palette. I like the darkness of black and the purity of white. I don’t like hiding behind colour and pattern, I prefer designing with an emphasis on silhouette and textural contrasts. “ With an emphasis on silhouette, the collection plays with contrasting textures and focuses heavily on natural materials, including cotton, silk and linen.
Gail describes her inspiration behind the collection as “The bulbous shape of liquid and its flow intercepted by time. It’s an exploration of fluidity and freedom versus restraint”. These influences are translated into the collection through voluminous silhouettes, pleating, drapery and spherical lines. Gail experiments with knitwear for the first time this season in her exploration of the bulb-shape silhouette.
The key investment piece of the collection is the Gail Sorronda hat. This season the signature hat resembles a sphere – symbolic of a stone thrown into water the hat is wide-brimmed, with rounded multiple tulle tiers. Other stand out pieces of the collection include a sheer wide leg pleated trouser; and a structured mini shift dress with cut-out detail; a tailored top with plunging neckline and open back.
So without further ado we present the Spring/Summer 2011-2012 collection from Gail Sorronda…Enjoy!
