It’s worth pointing out that the talented Nicole is beautiful enough to model her own garments.
Who is Frankie and Nicole and what does the label specialise in? Frankie & Nicole is representative of brother/sister duo Nicole Dixon & Francesco (aka Frankie) Cartella. The label specialises in sleepwear for both women and men. Francesco at the moment is more of a ‘silent partner’ and pillar of support while Nicole undertakes the Director/Head Designer roles. Nicole is a qualified teacher, and has featured in many print and TVC campaigns as well as co-hosting a children’s program on Channel 9. How did it all start for your label? When and where was the label founded? Having dabbled in jewellery design for a couple of years also, Nicole is not entirely new to the fashion industry. Alongside her brother, she created a men’s t-shirt range several years ago from their home in Brisbane. Thriving on the creativity but lacking the passion for men’s t-shirts, her attention quickly turned to women’s sleepwear. It was at this time that Nicole discovered a clear gap in the market. “When it comes to pyjamas, the market is saturated with either cutesy graphic prints or saucy lingerie style pieces. When I couldn’t find anything in between – I decided to do something about it!” What are the future plans for the Frankie and Nicole label? In keeping with the ethos of the label – ‘We’re not just a brand, we’re a lifestyle’, Nicole plans to continually expand their collections season after season, eventually branching out into home wares and accessories. The namesake stores will open firstly here in QLD and then progressively around the country.
Name some inspirations and fellow designers you draw inspiration from. Frankie & Nicole draw inspiration from locations, events and people. For example the first collection ‘Lazy Sundays’ is somewhat reflective of resort style living, emanating a simple and chic elegance. Think breakfast in bed and sipping coffee on the deck, to relaxing after work or simply sharing a laugh with friends. “I often get inspired by simple things such as a great colour scheme I see when I walk into a trendy little café or someone passes me by in the street wearing a well put together and eye catching outfit.” Name the ideal celebrity that reflects your labels style, or if celebrities have already worn the label – who are they? Frankie & Nicole is ‘casual chic’ with a hint of elegance and celebrities whose styles are synonomous with this include Halle Berry, Elle Macpherson, Anne Hathaway and Jessica Alba.
