Flux Fashion – MelbourneMen’s Boutique Fashion from MelbourneA fashion label by Denis Leadbeater & Julian Johnson
Flux founders Denis and Julian are the quiet achievers of men’s boutique streetwear fashion. Having met at Melbourne punk gigs in the 1980’s, the pair grew a strong friendship which eventually led the creation of Flux fashion label in 1999. Both Denis and Julian have backgrounds in graphic design. The Flux label celebrates its decade anniversary in 2009, an amazing achievement for a fashion label that started with only a few printed t-shirts. Flux is now stocked in over fifty boutiques Australia-wide, as well as internationally in Europe, Singapore, Japan and the USA. One of the main reasons that Flux fashion has gained and maintained its reputation as a leading men’s streetwear label, is because all of its clothing creations are designed and made in Melbourne. Australian Fashion Review has the upmost respect that the label has continued to produce its garments on Australian shores, despite the higher production costs compared to offshore options. This is one reason why Flux fashion has such a strong loyal following.
The moral ground of Flux doesn’t stop there – Flux is one of the few (if any) fashion labels to reject a large order from a department store to protect its image. In other words, they didn’t want to sell out. Some say it was crazy to reject, but how can you question the flux founders when they are ten years strong. Flux clothing garments use quality fabrics to create well cut, fitted pieces that last well beyond a single season. Particularly popular is the printed slim fit tees and the range of ‘fucking skinny jeans’ (click to see the Flux denims jeans collection). If you haven’t already figured it out yet, Australian Fashion Review is an avid fan of the Flux fashion label – They keep it real and have consistency – enough said.
