Dion lee womens clothing range - Australian fashion week

The talk about town at this year’s Rosemount Australian Fashion Week was Dion Lee, a young Sydney-based fashion designer that has the Australian fashion industry at his feet with his women’s clothing range. Dion held his first showing at Fashion Week within a car park at Kings Cross, Sydney.

His latest 2009 Autumn – Winter clothing collection can best be described as a whirlwind of modern style with defining sharp, clean cut edges in simple shades of black, grey, white and light pastels.

Deon Lee graduated from the Sydney Institute of Technology’s fashion school in 2007.

In 2007 he won second place in the Crosier Eveningwear Award for a design inspired by the Tibetan Knot of Eternity. The dress was made from handmade rope and woven from over 200 balls of cotton yarn. He was also awarded Westfield Fashion Graduate of the Year in August 2008 as well as receiving the Prix de Marie Claire award for the best up and coming designer.

His design style is said to be inspired by the construction of clothing with his pieces structured and tailored with functional detailing. In the words of Mr Lee – “The shapes are very crushed and sculptural”.
