Despite being a fashion label from New Zealand, Australian Fashion Review still wanted to feature the sunglasses collection from Cassius Eyewear. We figured that there was no dedicated kiwi fashion sites kicking around, thus the next best option was us.

Apart from exporting sheep and the infamous beached whale youtube sensation (which was done by Aussies believe it or not) , New Zealand is responsible for quality fashion labels including Karen Walker (another New Zealand label that was a must feature for us), Zambesi and now Cassius Eyewear.

Cassius is a newcomer to the fashion scene, with its first sunglasses collection released in 2008. The brain behind Cassius Eyewear is New Zealander Jason Ng, who remains the creative director of the booming label. Jason studied and trained in fashion design in NZ and Australia, before a stint in London working in marketing, pr and fashion. Jason returned to his local shores and set up an agency to curate and showcase the best international shoes and apparel. Cassius followed in 2008.

Cassius sunglasses have taken off around the globe with stockists in Tokyo, New York, London, L.A, Paris, Sydney and Las Vegas baby. Celebrities that have been spotted wearing Cassius sunglasses include Lady Gaga, Duffy, MGMT, Kanye West, Kelis, The Killers and Rihanna to name a few. Not a bad crew to represent your label!

Despite being worn by the who’s who of music and fashion, Jason Ng prefers the label to be referred to an alternative to luxury fashion. Cassius (he believes) is just another option. Try telling that to sunglasses fashionistas throughout the globe who are desperate to get their hands on a pair of Cassius sunglasses, which are limited to 300 pairs in every style and colour. Cassius may not be aiming itself as a luxury designer sunglasses label, but it is well on the path of becoming exactly that – keep your eyes covered in the future for Cassius Eyewear.
