Beat Poet Men’s Designer Winter Fashion 2010
Autumn/Winter 2010 Clothing Collection – ‘Fragments’
A boutique mens wear label by Sydney-based fashion designers Edward von Bertouch and James St Johnson Beat Poet was awarded ‘GQ Man of the Year’ 2009 for the category of ‘Designer’ in November 09. Words from Beat Poet Pure Geometry, modern and ancient collapse into zen fragments The autumn/winter component of the Zero Form collection continues the exploration of structure/unstructure begun in spring/summer. Inspiration is drawn from ’60′s Brutalist concrete architecture and japanese zen traditions. Garments are studied in both ‘soft’ and ‘hard’ forms. For example the coat is considered in a structured version – the D-coat, a draping version – the Rag -coat, and a soft knitted wrap version – the Zen Cross-coat. Trousers range from rumpled leg shapes to straight stove-pipes to pleated Drape trousers. Jersey sections slice through sleeves and back panels to break up the structure. A concrete colour palette unifies these forms and a crushed textural theme provides a link between the unstructured and the structured.
