Arabella Ramsay – Designer Womens Fashion Label
Words from Arabella Ramsay’s website
Arabella Ramsay was raised in a creative household in country Victoria. Her imaginative sprit was nurtured during a childhood spent playing in the paddocks, reading children’s books, inventing games and undertaking craft projects. “There was always some activity transpiring such as drawing, sewing and quilting and that has heavily influenced my ideas”.
In 2001 Arabella moved to Melbourne to study Textile Design. Her final graduate project of patchwork bags cut from vintage fabrics sent magazine editors and buyers into a tailspin as they clamoured to get their hands on the quirky and fresh range.
The high demand for Arabella’s accessories resulted in the evolution of a fully fledged clothing line. Channelling a feminine, vintage aesthetic with a charming, youthful edge, each collection brings new experiments in fabric; metallic leather, heavy silks, provincial upholstery, liberty cottons, vintage lace, slouchy denim and soft suedes, exploding in a riot of colour and print. Arabella’s obsession with colour and pattern is reflected in the unique print she designs exclusively for her collection each season.
She is implicit in every stage of the design process from sourcing rare fabrics in rural towns to subtly customising pieces with traditional handcrafts such as crochet, embroidery, patchwork and appliqué. The result is an eclectic fusion of antique and contemporary in vintage inspired shapes and youthful cuts.
Arabella Ramsay has shown at Mercedes Fashion Week, Tiffany’s and Startup Parades, Melbourne L’Oreal Fashion Festival, Motorola Spring Fashion Week, Myer Australian Open Golf Show and Rosemount Australian Fashion Week. She has received sponsorship from Skyy Vodka and collaborated with Australian retail giant Sportsgirl.
In 2006, two years after studying fashion abroad in Paris, Arabella Ramsay opened her first store in High Street Armadale. Filled with feminine frocks and whimsical prints, the boutique has gained an adoring cult following who are charmed by Ramsay’s nostalgic folk aesthetic meets rock rebel style.
Arabella Ramsay has a namesake boutique store at 1073 High St, Armadale, Melbourne (see image below)
